For parents, the biggest concern is the environment in which their children grow. Renovating kid’s room or play area is different from other sections of the house, and utmost attention is required to carry out things, effectively. While on the other hand, you also need to consider the well-being of your surrounding environment. Here are a few ways to renovate your kids room in natural way.

Wooden Finishing

From nursery furniture to wooden doors and windows, the room may require wooden refinishing to some extent. This is particularly for cribs and toys that kids may chew on. To be on the safe side when it comes to furniture sealing and painting, use products that are extracted from hemp seed or linseed oils, as they are non-toxic, even if ingested. Also use oils that are employed on cutting boards. A lot of green manufacturers make such wooden products, which are not only protective, but also safe for children.

Window Placement

For any room of any size, placing the windows at the right position can make a huge impact.  You need to block the ultraviolet rays of the sun, which can be damaging, both for your kid and the interior fabrics. Direct heat can have a drastic impact on your utility bills as well, in case you are using an air-conditioner or a dehumidifier.  If you can’t really help the direction of the windows, consider using materials such as wool, cotton, jute or hemp to keep out the heat, and also provide aesthetics. Choose PVC-free options, in case you are using roller shades.

Painting

Use of low or non-volatile organic compound is advised for painting walls in kid’s room. These compounds can emit toxic fumes into the air, causing harmful conditions for you, your kid as well as the environment. Look up at a local shop, whether they sell eco-friendly products for your painting needs. If not, then get in contact with your renovation contractor to arrange one for you.

Flooring

If you are replacing the floors with carpets, ask the installer about their procedure of applying the product.  Use of adhesives can be allergic and toxic for your kids or your family members. It’s advisable to use natural fibers, in place of synthetic. A cotton or wool carpet with jute backing is much better than synthetic fiber carpet.

Seal The Construction Space

If the kid’s room is being renovated while you are still staying at home, take safety measures by sealing the construction area from the rest of the property. Open all the doors and windows to allow passage of air particles and dusts. Once the job is done, immediately change the air filters for proper functioning of ventilation system. Clean the bedding and carpet, while allowing the renovated room to air out for a few days. Keep the children away from this room at least for a couple of days, if possible.

Renovation is that procedure, which requires proper planning and preparation. With these tips in mind, you can remodel your living space, without harming the environment. Give us a call today  at GreenTree Construction for a free consultation.
